Open Thoracic Surgery Residency and Fellowship Positions

The University of Connecticut School of Medicine is announcing a new thoracic fellowship training program beginning August 1, 2024. We are inviting applicants to apply who will be completing an ACGME accredited general surgery training program by July 2024. This program will offer robust thoracic and cardiac training at UConn and affiliated training hospitals, including Hartford Hospital and Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. This program is designed to produce well-balanced trainees who wish to pursue careers in cardiac or thoracic surgery in both academic environments as well as private practice.

Applicants must have successfully completed an ACGME-approved general surgery residency or equivalent program before matriculation into the fellowship. Interested applicants should submit the following documents:

  • Current Curriculum Vitae
  • Personal statement
  • Medical School Transcript/ Dean’s Letter
  • USMLE/COMLEX scores
  • ABSITE scores (all)
  • ECFMG Certificate for non-US graduates
  • 3-4 letters of support, including one from the Current Program Director and at least one letter from a thoracic or cardiac surgeon.
  • The University of Connecticut accepts J1 visa only, do not apply unless you currently have a J1 visa.
